There are several tools that help me calm my mind and find inner peace. The most important tool is the Holy Bible. There are Scriptures in it that address every situation in my life whether good or bad, easy or difficult. Reading the Bible daily and or listening to others teach it gives me an opportunity to focus on past, present, and future issues of “real life” and “real living”. Since there is nothing new under the sun and unnoticed by God, there is always a solution to a problem, encouragement and comfort when needed, rebuke and chastisement when necessary, instruction and revelation to unveil the unknown, and the assurance that the Word of God is truth. Circumstances and situations do not thwart or overshadow calm or peace in my life because the peace and joy I receive from God is beyond understanding with the natural mind.
Philippians 4:7 (WEB)
And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
Other tools of calm and inner peace that add to that of the Word of God is my love for music, art, theater, dance, literature, cooking, and serving others. Both instrumental and vocal music helps me to feel the pulse of the artist’s expression, to engage in the emotional tone and sensitivity of rhythm and lyrics, and to just enjoy the creativity and intellect of the artist. Each genre has its own appeal, so I love to explore each. I have very much the same approach to the love of art, theater, dance, literature, and cooking. Serving others has a rhythm of its own. It creates a song of purpose and fulfilment for such a time as this. Life becomes so meaningful when you are used as an instrument to touch the life of someone else in a positive way and when that which you have done has brought glory to your Creator. How can calm and inner peace and joy not be the result of these?
